On the house.

I left work around 4:15 this evening-- I was very focused today-- didn't chat with anyone online-- other than Christian-- and that's just because I don't want to get up from my desk and walk over and say anything-- and I just buckled down and did it. .. sometimes, and often times with me... half the battle of getting work done is deciding to start.

Compared to last night at 9:00 pm, I was a happy camper. I needed to do some serious power shopping. Called Todd- he wanted to come with-- so I got my car swung by his work and we jetted around to various stores. This mainly involved Todd being a little annoyed with me the whole time we were looking at woman items. (um, what did you think you were getting yourself into .. and also... did you think i loved being in Eddy Bauer?)

But, since I had an idea of the things i wanted to buy-- it didn't take so long so I don't know why he was acting like such a big fat baby. wwaaaaaaaaaaaah. He is going to see Adrienne tomorrow-- I am dreadfully jealous. They are two of my fav people-- and they are going to be having far too much fun without me. ah well. I really don't want to get on another plane... at all.

Then we went to sushi. Let me just say this: Todd and I went to lunch yesterday at the Walnut Room-- and it was fantastic, a nice little vacation in the midst of an annoying day for me. Well then, tonight we ate about a million dollars worth of sushi. We are starting to feel like we spend too much money on food-- or maybe I am starting to feel that way-- i don't know how Todd is starting to feel. I only know how I feel. (even though Hot Toddy paid for it.... I feel bad-- because he said now I owe him dinner-- and god knows he is going to suggest the chop house some day.. and then when the bill comes he will say, "hey, remember when we got sushi? Oh, and I forgot my wallet... but really I owe it to him because he does a lot for me.. and then to buy my million dollars worth of sushi isn't very fair, now is it?)

We were at the sushi place for a very long time.. and we ate the whole time. The guy just kept making us stuff.. and saying it was "on the house" but then when the bill came.. it wasn't on the house... which, you might say, is a very strange phenomenon. I am not, however, surprised at all. Mainly because I don't think this man had a very good grasp of what "on the house meant." While he could make a fantastic white tuna roll, and a decorative cucumber and salmon creation-- his grasp of English phrases, in my estimation was limited at best.

It's kind of like when a foreigner tells you something exciting in his life and then follows the story with.. "hey but don't cry about spilling milk huh?"

yep, pretty much, just like that.

To save money we spent at sushi, I parked at Trader Joes because parking there is On the House. Well, if by on the house you mean, if I buy something I don't need, they give me free parking for an hour and a half.. then yes, it is on the house. But, I would arguably say that it is more ON THE HOUSE than our dinner was.... in fact, my tea tree face pads and Egg Nog were not a million dollars and that afforded me the ON THE HOUSE parking... really a mere $7-- and this allowed me to wash my face, drink egg nog, and park for free.

Next time someone tries to give you a gift at a restaurant and they say it's on the house. Remember this:

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth... or should you.
