What's wrong in America.

SO, you are going to penalize me if I don't want to buy health insurance---- yes, it is just stupid: but shouldn't it be my choice to buy or to not buy if I am over 18? It is different than car insurance in that I am not hurting people but myself, right?

I don't know.

How about we start going up to every trash bucket in the grocery store and fining them if they have potato chips, salami, and whit bread in their cart.

OR frozen pizzas. I think if your health is bad-- or if you are 15 pounds or more overweight, you should get a fine for eating hot dogs.. and frozen pizza. You should only get potatoes, beans, and veggies... with food stamps.

Or, how about this, if you are depressed-- and you don't exercise at least one hour a day-- you don't get your meds... because one of the main cures for depression is exercise and diet.... if people would be so ambitious to do that.

My thoughts on Health Care Reform:

I don't mind paying for someone's problems. So long as they don't mind me pushing them off of their fat butts to go outside and pick up their yards

Or rummaging through their cupboards and pulling out the crap that most of America's poor eat: salami, cakes, potato chips, hot dogs, mac-n-cheese, ramen etc.

I think if you are going to force people to pay for other's health decisions, then they should also be regulated on their life style and diet. If you smoke-- you can't get help for lung cancer. If you drink -- liver disease and kidney failure are your problem: If you eat junk food and you have a cholesterol problem-- it's not mine to pay for until you change your eating habits etc...

THEN I don't mind one bit paying for other's health problems. If they can care to take care of their bodies... I don't mind helping them.

HOW ABOUT THIS:

Saturday night, in the ghetto at "fiesta mercado" some old lady with a limp and a scraggly voice tried to sell me her link card for 50%. Man was I mad.

How about this-- quit having kids so we can give you money that you then sell to buy cigs and booze while your kids eat ramen and mac and cheese.

ooooooh

OR HOW ABOUT THIS:

Quit buying things you can't pay for. If you make 100k a year. Live like it. I.e. you aren't rich enough to buy a new car, new boat, new house, and new clothes.

Make a budget.. Pay things off.

Then america will be better.

  1. Actually, the penalties for not having health insurance are almost non-existent (until they make further changes to the law). They aren't the same as real taxes.

Here's a snippet from the Joint Committee of Taxation:

"The use of liens and seizures otherwise authorized for collection of taxes does not apply to the collection of this penalty. Non-compliance with the personal responsibility requirement to have health coverage is not subject to criminal or civil penalties under the Code and interest does not accrue for failure to pay such assessments in a timely manner."

In other words, the government can say you owe them money for not having health insurance, but they can't do anything to collect that money. Brilliant.
