My new pet peeve-- the use of the word "plethora"
To me this is the explanation mark of punctuation! It is the word that the ACT Kaplan student remembers and uses trying to sound smart.
You always see 17 year olds or the girl at lush... "a plethora of oils for moisturizing." ah.. I am such a snob. I wanted to tell her... superfluity or excess; overabundance is the definition-- but it's ok. I will take an excess of oil for moisturizing. I will take them. I get what you are trying to say: "I am smart- look at my word of the day tear of dictionary paying off."
In some ways, it kind of broke my heart. Kind of like a little girl playing dress up in her mother's heels. So cute.
I am such a horrible person. And now I've marked in history in the form of confession to you, my reader.
Just know- it's ok if you use this word to me in the future-- so long as you aren't trying to show off.
