Old stuff

Registered.

Last week, I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was one of the most fun things i've done in a while.

I get this strange feeling that people think that because I'm not a child (I.E. I'm over 25) and I am getting married that I shouldn't be registering for stuff.

Um.... I've been buying crappy pots and pans and crap plates at Old Time Pottery waiting for the day that i could trick all of you into getting me things I actually want. (Arte Italica dishes.. http://www.thebowlcompany.com/GiftRegistry.aspx or get them used at ebay-- I don't care).

I haven't been married.

I haven't lived with any of the guys I've dated.

I haven't jumped into seriousness or collected "house-warming" gifts.

What makes you think that because I'm 28, I'm not pregnant, and I've done things the right way that I don't deserve to have some new dishes for Pete's sake?

Oh well. That's my two cents (or 12) and I will leave it at that.

I remember when my sister got married she didn't get very nice stuff (she did get some nice things.. but, I mean, I've been to showers where people have done better).

I attributed it to two things:
1. She was 29. (Which, I will be too-- by 3 days)
2. they think our family has money so they think she can just get crap used crystal or some non-sense-

Once again. Oh well.

It all kind of reminds me of a Sex and The City episode where Carry revolts because she is sick of going to all these showers... so she has a party for herself and registers for expensive shoes. I loved that... and related.

Whatever.

  1. I hear you, friend. :-) I'm nearly 28, and will probably find myself in a similar situation soon. It's as if you're 'the last man standing' so to speak and you've waited for the right person to spend your life with and the right timing, but somehow people view you as behind the times. Although in reality the statistics are a lot better for us.

And I love the analogy - that's such a funny episode of S&TC!
